This week’s episode features one of my old ex-colleagues from Wall Street. After serving in the US Coast Guard, Jared Dillian worked at the Pacific Coast Options Exchange and then worked later at Lehman Brothers before starting The Daily Dirtnap in 2008. What began as entertainment writing became more technical and strategic as Jared became a serious student of markets and economics. Jared is also the author of multiple books, and he writes regularly for Forbes and Bloomberg.
Spending much of his research time on Twitter, Jared is an expert in measuring, reading, and interpreting sentiment, and it shows in his writings. As of 2012, he’s been putting his money where his mouth is by investing his own money in his recommendations.
In my conversation with Jared, you’ll learn about his investment strategies, his outlook on the current bull market, his opinion on emerging markets, his view of cryptocurrencies, and why Bitcoin is reminiscent of the dot-com bubble.
In today’s episode you’ll learn:
- The history of The Daily Dirtnap
- Jared’s personal trading experience and philosophy
- Jared’s contrarian investment framework and methodology
- Jared’s view on the current bull market
- Why Jared invests almost exclusively outside of the US equity market
- How Bitcoin (and cryptocurrencies in general) is similar to the dot-com bubble
- Jared’s views on the Fed funds curve and the Board of Governors
